Why the anxious–avoidant connection feels karmic
I’m not going to tell you the connection wasn’t real, or that the pull you feel is imaginary. It’s real. But the karmic feeling — the magnetism, the “we’ve met before,” the sense that this person was sent — has machinery behind it. Three mechanisms, stacked. And when you can see the machinery, you get to keep the meaning without losing yourself to it.
This matters most with a fearful avoidant, because their early connection is genuinely deep — which makes the fate-feeling strongest exactly where the loop is strongest.
The three mechanisms behind the magnetism
1 · THE WORTH GAP
Notice the specific person you spiral over. Somehow above you, in your private maths. Rarer. More magnetic. When someone you place above you chooses you, it doesn’t just feel good — it feels like proof. Proof of the thing you’ve doubted about yourself your whole life. That’s not romance doing that. That’s your worth, outsourced. Full note on the worth gap here.
2 · THE AUTHENTIC WINDOW
With a fearful avoidant, the early closeness is real. Deep, mutual, fast. It doesn’t feel like meeting someone — it feels like recognising them. That recognition is what people call “past life” or “twin flame.” What it usually is: two people whose wounds fit perfectly, meeting at full depth before either alarm goes off.
3 · INCONSISTENT REWARD
Then the hot-cold starts. And here’s the cruel part: unpredictable warmth grips a nervous system far harder than steady warmth. Every reunion after a cold spell lands like destiny pulling you back together. It isn’t destiny. It’s the same mechanism that makes slot machines work — applied to love.
Why “karmic” is half right
Here’s where I won’t argue with the language. Something is happening in these connections that goes deeper than ordinary dating. The person triggers the exact place you don’t feel enough. They surface every pattern you learned as a kid. The relationship becomes a mirror you can’t look away from.
If that’s what karmic means — a connection that shows you your deepest wound — then yes. It’s karmic.
But the lesson in a karmic bond is almost never “hold on tighter.” It’s the return to yourself. The connection came to show you where you left yourself — not to be the place you stay lost.
The test
One question separates a profound connection from a beautiful trap: does this bond require you to keep abandoning yourself to stay in it?
If the answer is yes, the fate-feeling isn’t a reason to stay. It’s the pull of Stage 1 of the Loop, wearing spiritual clothing. You can honour what it showed you and still choose yourself. That’s not abandoning the lesson. That is the lesson.

Is my anxious–avoidant relationship a twin flame?
The intensity is real, but twin-flame patterns — pull, separation, reunion — map almost exactly onto the Loop. Keep the language if it helps. Just check whether the “destiny” requires your self-abandonment.
Why is the chemistry so strong?
Three stacked mechanisms: the worth gap, the authentic window, and inconsistent reward. Together they read as fate.
Does a karmic feeling mean we’re meant to be?
It means the connection is activating something deep — usually the place you don’t feel enough. Meaningful, yes. Sustainable, not by itself.
